Creating a Children’s Booklet
The Islamic Center of Pittsburgh came to the School of Design asking for materials that addressed non-Muslim stereotypes of Muslim women for an audience of middle-school aged children.
After presenting our early sketches to the client and visting the Islamic center, we decided to create a small booklet that showed a day-in-the-life of a Muslim woman. We wanted to focus on her family and her job. Collage was chosen to allow us to quickly create a design that was visually sophisticated. During a few weeks of experimentation and talking with the client we came up with the story and layout. This was presented to a group of girls visiting the Islamic Center to verify that the images were working.
